We love organizing a group snorkeling trip to Isla de Salango, in fact, it is one of our favorite tours to do with the hostel! We love it because it combines so many of our favorite activities in one trip: snorkeling, fishing, boating, swimming, and island-hopping!
Visiting Isla de Salango
Isla de Salango is home to a wide-range of bird life, including the famous blue-footed boobies, frigate birds, pelicans, and many more. Off the coast of the island is a protected marine zone within Machalilla National Park. Given no fishing is allowed in the area, it is a pristine snorkeling and diving site full of tropical fish, manta rays, sea turtles, and beautiful coral reefs. And, more often than not, we are normally the only ones snorkeling there!
Snorkeling, Fishing, & Beaches
This snorkeling-boat trip consists of a short drive from La Casa long-term Hostel to Salango where we board our private boat. Then it is a short 5-minute boat trip to Isla de Salango where we snorkel for a few hours. Sometimes we bring our fishing poles and fish, of course outside the Machalilla National Park boundaries, and whatever we catch we cook for the whole hostel to enjoy! After snorkeling, we head to Playa Dorado, which has the most amazing sand everrrrrrrrrr (seriously it’s luscious and feels like pizza dough)! We, and our guests, could play in it all day long! After swimming, body surfing, and enjoying some snacks on the beach in Playa Dorado, we head back to Salango where we eat lunch at Restaurante El Pelicano (even Anthony Bourdain has eaten here a few times)! And then after around 3-5 hours of fun, we head back to La Casa.
Join Us!
The boat trip costs $15/person (includes snorkeling gear) and lunch costs around $10/person. It’s one of the activities we love to do as a big group with our hostel guests, so please contact us if you are interested in participating in this trip with us!
